This paper will discuss successful ways for musicians to practice self-promotion and how these steps can further an artist’s career.

The internet is a tool that more and more people are using and has broken into the entertainment industry and shows no signs of leaving. The internet has revolutionized the way that music artists connect with Gen-Y users. The internet has changed the steps one would take to get exposed. In this digital age everyone should take the time to use the internet to their own advantage. Artists and should market themselves by using the internet's tools as a positive means for self-promotion.

Online correspondence is immediate; the quick click of a button can send an e-mail to anyone with a personal e-mail account. This allows an artist to reach any music label or agent and vise versa. E-mail gives an artist the ability to send their music and photos to large amounts of record labels at one time without paying for postage. Staying in touch with network connections through e-mail is just as important as getting information on the web for a producer to find. E-mail gives actors the ability to reach out to potential employers and maintain a relationship.

With the numbers on the rise it is apparent that the ways of self-promotion will be ever changing. Music artists will always need to be ready to adapt to the latest technology. The internet makes anything possible and you are left to expect the unexpected. The use and purpose for networking through sites like Facebook and Twitter are still being determined. This is new technology that is being molded into what the average Gen-Y consumer enjoys.
